That one has quite a bit more chocolate - but on Mt. Tamalpais in California, I came across a wild kingsnake that was banded on the back but had a solid color on the underside, though it wasn't uniformally solid. If I recall correctly (99%) it was brown, but not as brown as those pics. I don't think I've ever seen a wild kinsnake with patterning as chocolate brown as those pics.
I love California Kings - so much variety.
Cali arn't my favorite kings, they can be way cool anyway.
My favorites are L. Zonata - I've never had one, though I've lived and hunted in the alleged range.
Of course, being in the correct range on a field guide map (Stebbins) doesn't mean I looked in the right places. It seems I'm only allowed to take one from the wild anyway, and it seems unclear wether or not I'm allowed to buy them (California pet shops can't sell them, I don't know about out of state breeders).
I'm also partial to Florida Kings - specifically the southern variety (Brooksi). I don't have any, though the pictures I've seen are stunning. The baby I had that I had to give away when I went to college was also gorgeous.
With the exception of the one baby Brooksi king, Burmese Pythons and one Honduram Milksnake, I've never kept any snakes that weren't wild caught by me or a friend.
I'm going to be adding a few captive bred snakes to my collection this year, and I'm taking a woodworking course at the JC this fall - so hopefully I'll be able to build my own adequate housing (both display and maybe a rack system) to start branching out more, preferably from what captive breeders have to offer rather than the wild.
My WC specimens are having their stool analyzed by the local vet to check for intestinal parasites (I have no reason to suspect) so that they can be medicated if necessary before I add captive bred specimens.
My favorites are big easterns like this one
