baby Mali Uros hatching

billygunn Jun 24, 2006 11:50 PM

Here are a few pics of our 1st clutch of Mali Uromastyx hatching. They started hatching on 6/23/06. 7 eggs were laid and 7 hatched. These are from one of our LTC pair (about 4yrs). The first time she laid in 04 there were 11 laid and hatched, this year only 7 were laid but they were much bigger (about 3in). These were laid on 4/17/06. I'll post more pics when we get them in their cage. We have 3 breeder pairs but only 2 produced eggs. Thanks for looking.

Awesome! They look great. Always nice to see that people are successful in breeding. Great pictures!

At first I was going to reply that I don't think I could ever breed uros because I'd want to keep every one of the cute little babies... but on second thought, breeding would allow you to constantly have adorable little baby uros running around and then sell em before they get bigger...

Great babies!

Thanks for the responces. My wife is the same way, she wants to keep all of the babies LOL. If more people would try and breed these it would take some of the pressure off the imports. The past few shows we've been to there have been some Mali and Sahara uro imports that were on their last days. People buy these at very cheap prices only to have them die in a few days. I've had people call me asking how they could save them but there's not much you can do when their that far gone. They bring these in by the thousands and alot don't make it. To us they are worth the time and effort to try and breed these. It's sad to see the condition some of these are in with some (not all) people just wanting to make a buck.

I plan on breeding uro's myself but not for 2 years or so.Just want to make sure I know everything that has to be done and what to expect and have all the knowledge that I'll need.I'm not the type of person to jump into something unless I am good and ready and prepared for all aspects of the task. But I am looking forward to it!
