First time feeding them Pinkies....

calgecko Jun 25, 2006 03:16 PM

I've got 3 females, each about 4 years old.. So far, they've done fine on a diet of Large Mealworms gutloaded with Flukers Cricket food (the orange gel cube things) ... today, I figured I'd try something different - Pinkies. I put one in their cage, and it's like they don't know what to do with it. It's been about 20 minutes and each gecko has licked it and sniffed it, then walked away. Any tips?

I only use pinkies for females during breeding season. I also don't feed them often either. Just after a female has laid eggs. They are usually starving at that point. I wouldn't recommend them as a staple diet food. Try crickets, roaches, silk worms.

No, I wouldn't do it as a staple either.. my geckos have been fine for the past few years (and still are fine) just eating mealworms with the occasional waxworm.. I figured I'd try pinkies this time around just to see if they'd eat them.

No luck yet.

OK.. no more responses..

I'm gonna take the pinkies out of the tank and throw them in the garbage I guess :???: Not sure what else to do with them. the Geckos don't seem interested in the least bit, and I don't know if these things can be "stored" very long

I have females that will eat them and ones that won't. I try to give them to the females after they have laid eggs, but only a few will actually eat them.

I left them in the tank all night last night, and all 3 pinkies are still there today. I'm guessing they won't get eaten.

What's the most "humane" way to get rid of these pinkies?
