july for leps or alterna ?

brown Jun 26, 2006 01:06 PM

Been a few years since I hunted down there, I caught most of my leps and alterna in June, but do to work constrictions I may not be able to hunt until the 1st or 2nd week of July. Have any of you caught much around this time. I realize the weather plays a big part but it's usually hotter that time. Also I am from Denison/ Sherman area about 1 hour north of Dallas, anyone close by?

For me, while the numbers of alterna don't seem any different(or better for that matter, lol)in July, I personally have had beter luck with leps from July thru Sept rather than earlier in the season. Good Luck!
Best...

You can find alterna in July. The beauty of July is that there aren't dozens of other herps out there. You can have many areas to yourself.
This snake was found on a dry night, about 1:15 am.

I agree Chris. I have found many in July, and most have been on the road interestingly enough!

I know of many people that hit the locals in higher elevations that cool off more quickly in June, such as the Alpine and Fort Davis areas.

But to be honest, they can be found everywhere in July with some regularity.
