Special het. Red Axanthic (Pics Inside)

bustyballpythons Jun 26, 2006 06:16 PM

I’m calling it “Special” because there is something that is going on with mom. The whole clutch came out looking weird. I ended up with 2.1 "special" het. Reds, and 1.0 that has some characteristics of both parents (but not the het. Red color), and 0.1 that is identical to mom...Jon from NWE took these pics for me...Thanks Jon and hope you guys like the pictures...

Whats "special" about them? I am honestly just asking. Please I thought that het reds were black backs? I'm guessing thats not true? I though that because i do believe i read that in this forum a little while back....? Im just seeking knowlage not trying to start [bleep] or burst bubbles

Het. Reds are black backs. The reason I'm calling it special is because it is not a black back. The 2.1 het. Reds that came out of this clutch all have striping on them. After hatching them out and really looking over the other offspring, I went back and really looked at mom. These het. Reds have characteristics of her and one of the females in the clutch looks identical to mom. I recieved mom from a pet store about 2 yrs. ago so I have no genetic history on her, but I'm guessing she was a ch ball. Next season I plan on breeding one of the "special" het. Red males back to mom to see what the heck is going on. Something genetic in her was strong enough to influence the striping on what is supposed to be a genetically black backed animal, so I know something is going on with her. No offense taken.

Thanks,

Now you and anyone else who reads this knows as much as me about what the heck is going on. All I know is with all I've seen in the past 2-3 yrs. hatch out with ball pythons, I'm not puting anything past mom on her genetics. I've learned that when dealing with ball pythons, anything is possible!! BTW Dave, that is a nice Pastel you have there on your site!! Def. a good breeder to have!!

Take care,
Dom -bustyballpythons.com

Thanks for the compliment. I’ll be sure to pass it on hehe. But yeah he is a NICE pastel. I’m very proud of him. He is just over a year old, 800 grams and is producing sperm!

thats why we are trading females next year,GOOD LUCK DAVE

is it POSSIBLE that they are not het reds but normals per-say excluding the mothers genetics, seeing as how het reds ARE VISUALLY genetic black backs,or even one step further someone said many posts back that the possibility of breeding morphs to the point that you get back to normals again and that maybe the mothers "potential" gene cancelled the het red gene out for a reason only nature may know.

PLEASE DONT YELL AT ME IF I MADE NO SENSE

bustyballpythons Jun 26, 2006 07:33 PM

But no it's not...Because 1.1 hatched out of the clutch of 5 eggs that are not het. Reds...You can tell the difference by their color, bellies, and certain markings in their patterns..

Thanks,

I don't mean to burst the bubble , but am I the only trained eye noticing the the 2nd and 4th yellow mark behind this animal's head have a black mark in them . THIS IS THE SAME ANIMAL IN ALL 4 PICTURES....LET'S SEE THE OTHER 2 "SPECIAL "HET REDS .POST A PIC OF ALL 3 SIBLINGS TOGETHER PLEASE.I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SEE THE VARIATION BETWEEN SIBLINGS , AS I'M SURE OTHERS WOULD.
THANKS IN ADVANCE AND GOOD LUCK WITH IT .

I think I said here are pictures (meaning more than 1) of the "special" female that is the nicest looking of the the 2.1 group...But if you look on my site there are pictures of the siblings...I still need to take pictures of the "special" males, but there sister is alot cleaner looking for sure.

Thanks,
