When would it be to late in the year for road cruising Southern California? I may be visiting my sister in law and would like to plan my trip accordingly. Thanks in advance.

When the mother in law is around

I have road cruised most species until early - mid october (weather permitting), especially in the deserts. I have still road cruised things in november in the desert but it wasnt herping, just driving thru and happened to see a few things (Nov. 13 04) Coastal regions start to slow down from road activity around the beginning of september. Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks! That helps quite a bit.

WOW,
Right now is insane for road cruising. I have been going out every weekend and am averaging 16 snakes a night in a three hour window.
I agree that late in the season is late October into early November.
When are you planning on coming out?

We were thinking around early to mid September. More to do with schedule issues than best time to road hunt. What have you been seeing?

I have mostly seen Mojave Green Rattlesnakes, Glossy Snakes, Pacific Gopher Snakes, one Longnose Snake, and some Desert Kings.
What area of So. Cal are you visiting? September will be a great time to locate snakes out here.

Here is one of the snakes I found.

Dayum, dude,
16 snakes a night is insane!!! Last Sunday we thought our 3 Mojave Greens were cool, but we weren't out that long. I'm off this weekend so, I'll call you and see if you wanna go out.

Where are you herping? Right now, things are getting too hot in Lancaster and nights are getting slow around here. June-August is always real slow for me, 1-2 snakes a night during these months. I'd really like to find 16/night like I did in spring.
