Veracruz: brown b/w face ID?

JohnBokma Jun 27, 2006 04:22 AM

We saw today a dark brown snake, with less dark brown. On top of the head were 2 white markings, and a white line above the eyes (and below?) and between both lines black (like a mask) (not 100% sure, but see the picture) Found under a large rock close to a coffee plant in a field with coffee plants, lemon trees, and some mango trees.

Several weeks ago I managed to take a picture of the front of a snake (guess), and I guess it's the same species? (Found under a rock close to a road). (See link url)

Thanks in advance for IDing.
Snake (same species) or lizard?

That snake is Coniophanes imperialis.

The snake in the hole looks more like Conophis sp. than a Coniophanes. The front of the head is too "sharp" for Coniophanes.
