Question about Simple Recessives

Kingofspades Jun 27, 2006 04:42 AM

So it's pretty much condluded that Simple Recessives will hold their price longer than codoms...

Sure that's true with clowns, pieds and caramels...
but what about regular old albinos?
What's the market like on them?
Would it be worth investing the $600 into a het pair?

Why wouldn't it? Albinos are great and EVERYONE needs at least one to complete their collection. Prices are almost always going down. Just enjoy the animals and it should pay off in the end.

If it were me, unless I could find some nice sized 05's I would just pick up a visual albino. I have already seen some for sale for $1400 and I'm sure a little later in the season or at shows you could find one for $1200 or so. For me,I would only buy hets if the visual is more than 3 times the cost of a pair of hets. If not I figure I'm better off spending a little more for the visual.

Depending on how far you would like to go in investing "as a business or as a hobby" when you invest in animals that take longer to produce but are in demand then you of course have a better long term investment. If you invest in the easier to produce faster turn around on your investment then realize that your money must be made ASAP. If your overhead is high and you are just trying to break even each month or year then you are not making a profit but just paying your bills. Some breeders have "over extended themselves" and what was fun before has become a cycle of catch up to stay even. Have a plan for your animals and your goals. Business or hobby is up to you. Success is the goal either way. Simple Recessives are a better over all investment "in demand" for the long haul. The Ball Python market now is changing because it use to be dominated by a handful of breeders and importers and now anyone with breeding skills and with business sense can now be a real player just like any other business. This is a good thing not only for everyone in this hobby-business but also for the animals. The once not respected Ball python now is a force to be reckoned with and to be appreciated for their amazing beauty. Business is not a dirty word and success is not a mindless venture. People who have integrity and are caretakers of their animals can flourish.

there have already been some very good replies to this, but as for is a het pair of albinos worth $600... I think sure they are. It all depends on the level you want to invest on, and how much time you want to invest. If you want albinos, and have $2k to spend, get a male albino and a het female or two. If you dont care what you get, and you can spend more than $600, get something higher price. A pair of pied or clown hets is a very good investment too. All major recessive morph hets are worth their price. There is NOTHING more valuable than adult female hets/homos of a major morph. With that in mind, is it worth it for you to spend $1500 on a 1.1het pied pair or 1.4 on het albinos? In the long run, the 1.4 is going to pay off much better, even though pieds are awsome.

Just my thoughts.
