After reading over the page and trying to catch up, I see many of us have been hurt by untimely losses. I lost my Fawn recently, too. These photos were taken in April, when everyone went to see Dr. Barney Oldfield for a wellness check and to weigh in. At that time he said he had not seen a healthier group of captive collareds, and I was feeling pretty good about things.
Around Memorial Day Fawn got her gravid colors. But she also began to lose weight. Then her breathing became labored. She went to see the doctor many times, and there were times she seemed to be getting better. But her pneumonia advanced and she continued to lose weight. Then she shocked me by laying 2 eggs about 10 days ago. Well, she tried to lay them but after watching her struggle I had to help her out. She was just too weak. Barney was surprised about the eggs, too. Neither of us imagined she could be that far along. They were good-sized eggs, but not viable after I helped squeeze them out.
She actually seemed better for the next several days after laying, but she died on the 5th day. I'm really not sure why, but she was just so very thin. Nothing like the fat girl in the photos. This was her second pregnancy and she become very ill the first time, too. I can't help but wonder if it is not somehow pregnancy related. It is the only time in her life she has been ill.
The others are doing great. Saige is starting to show pretty gravid colors and I am cautiously hopeful. She has not had eggs for 2 years now. I'd love to have a baby again. I hope things make a positive turn for all of us. I think Eve's new baby is the beginning of that trend.
