Lighting question. I know it has been ..

sdaly Jun 27, 2006 12:20 PM

asked a thousand times before. But it is time for me to change my Chams light and I may be getting a new baby soon, so I wanted to fing out what every one else is using and why you like it.

I have been using the POwersun MVB and I have had no problems with it at all, but I have was told by the breeder I am getting my baby from that the MVB can be bad for youngsters.

Thank you very much for your opinions in advance,
sdaly

It's been suggested that the Murvury Vapor Bulbs are just too intense for young chameleons. Not to mention too hot.

So what would you recommend I use for the baby?

I have used that light on my jacksons and my rehabers from work with no problems. I do have it quite a distance from the highest basking area as it is. So there hasn't been an issue with over heating so far. (knock on wood)

Do you think it would be suitable once the Cham is a sub adult or do you have a totally different preference all together?

Thanks again,
sdaly

If you are going to use UV for younglings or mountain species, Id suggest florescent tube bulbs.

I use a Zoo-med compact UVB 5.0. It is nice because it has an end just like a regular light bulb. Zoo-med also makes tube lights if you already have the balist for it.

Good luck.

PS. I have used the 5.0 since the beginning.

That was a very good website! It had a lot of good information. Now I just need to figure out exactly which bulbs I want to go with.
Standard fluorescent or compact? 5.0 vs 8.0 vs 10.0?

Well I will have to decide soon!

Thanks again,
