HELP!! Egg Bound....

CBH Jun 27, 2006 12:44 PM

My 03' Female W. Hog laid seven eggs on June 20. She still however has 3-4 eggs left (very obvious) and one egg is posterior to the vent.

Should I just wait or should I medicate to induce labor. If medication is needed, do you have a recommendation?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

I have heard soaking in a warm bath or gentle palpatations sometimes help, but I would take her to a vet ASAP. Goodluck.

I have tried the warm water bath. Unfortunately, there are few good herp vets in my area (or state). If I had a medication to ask for, I could get it from a friend of mine who is a Vet.

The snake is doing fine as far as I can tell. She is eating and pooping fine.

Be very careful of using any medictions on any animal that is having birthing problems.
You need to try and find out why she is having difficulty passing those last few eggs. If it is simply lack of energy than yes maybe something to stimilate contractions would work, However if there is an anatimical reason she has stopped laying and you give her medication to induce contractions, you risk putting her in severe pain or even doing physical damage to her.

If she doesn't seem to be in immediate distress, then I would let her be for a little longer while you see if you can find a vet that is able to see her.

There are plenty of herp lovers on this forum, maybe someone can recommend a vet that would be close enough to you.

Good luck and hope all goes well.
