Crested Shedding problems??

renee_dupuis Jun 27, 2006 01:52 PM

I apologize in advance. I know the answer I am seeking I have read before and probably in this forum somewhere and now that I need it, I can 't find it.

I have acquired a crested hatching and this is its first shed in my care (I have had it five days). The problem is that it seems like there is a peice of skin that wants to shed but is stuck to its shoulder area. I remember something about a styrofoam cup and a moist paper towel or something but was looking for clarification. Can someone please offer some suggestions? I am afraid to damage the skin with tweezers.

My humidity level seems fine and is reading well.

I used to have a pair of veileds but had no luck and nothing but problems with them. So I understand humidity. The problem is the terrarium I had custom built was for the adult Cresteds I was expecting, nothing quite this small and fragile seeming. Therefore, I have it temporarily housed in a 10 gallon glass tank with a screen top and am misting four times a day. I look forward to any suggestions. And I am hoping for a little reassurance I guess!

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

This happenend to one of my little guys a couple weeks ago and I just soaked his skin and pulled it off with tweezers. It's going to take a lot longer any other way. You could put him in a cup or bowl with moist paper towel all around if you wanted to wait for a while. Whatever method you use, it's just about making the skin as moist as possible - but I would just go with the tweezers - simple and efficient!
