Bulge between rear legs

deadacated1 Jun 27, 2006 08:30 PM

So we got talked into watching a friends gecko for a month. We've only had it two days, and noticed that there is a large brown mass between its two rear legs. The mass is definitely external. It almost looks like a wad of brown chewing gum is stuck there. It also hasn't eaten any of its crickets since they brought it over. Is there anything to be concerned about?
The owners can't be reached or else I'd be calling them.

Is the bulge coming out of his "anus"? If it is it could be a prolapse...and you need to take it to a vet.

If it is brown or black (not a nice pink, like the inside of your mouth) then its in a lot of trouble. If its still pink, keep it moist with something like K-Y jelly (not vaseline)and get the gecko to a vet ASAP.

You said.."It also hasn't eaten any of its crickets since they brought it over. Is there anything to be concerned about?

ya i agree it might be a prolapse. I recently lost my gecko from it. They are usually caused by stress. It need to see a vet

I've never heard of stress being a reason...did you mean straining? I have heard of trauma, dehydration, infection, inflammation, ingesting a foreign body, internal parasites, improper diet, and not enough calcium causing it.
