ive used both and the heat tape is way easier to use. first off you need just one strip of heat tape and it can be cut to any size and wired in many applications. with the heat cable you have to loop it back and forth and tape it down. plus it comes in the length you get it-you cant alter it all. plus with price of heat tape it seems all around more practical.
