My female cuban boa is growing good and when I return from deployment I will be seeking a male for her. She has reached 5' and 1200 g plus and is actually my fav snake.

Thanks Jeff. I had been on before asking about insular epicrates before (Bimini, etc.)

Goodlooking little girl you got there. Good luck finding her a mate and hopefully you get a result as on this picture.

Thanks. I hope so too. Is this pair yours?

Zogoth Jul 01, 2006 04:09 PM

Yes, this is my pair. The pic is from last year, but they have been mating again this week, so I'm hoping for some more small angry ones later this year.

My pair mated in their 3:rd year. The female around 2 meters and the male 160-180 cms.

I got a litter of 6 last year, 5 live ones and one stillborn. And from what I've seen they tend to produce small litters in general. But the juveniles was pretty big, around 50-60 cms.

My adults are pretty handable by now, even though I don't handle them much at all. The female is pretty calm once she understands that it isn't feedingtime. The male is pretty defencive and will strike more often than not.
The juveniles are plain "evil", striking as soon as they see something on the other side of the glas.
So my view of cubans is that they genarally are a bit highstrung and quick to strike, but also that they tend to calm down a bit with age.

I will definitely be looking for an older male when I get back from Afghanistan. How big are your guys? Female on her way to the monsters I see online in several pics?

Zogoth Jul 05, 2006 11:22 AM

The female isnt that big, mated a year to early, thought that they was too small last year but that was obviously not the case. She is around 2 meters, and the male a bit shorter, and have been a bit of a picky feeder most of the time.

Wow, from the way Carmen wants to eat I'd never expect any of them to be picky. She will zip across her cage to get her rat. Very unlike most boas that I am used to that do the sit and wait ambush behaviors (BCC and Madagascar Tree Boas I have).

I definitely like their unique head structure when comapred to other epicrates.

She is roughly five foot and weighing in at 1260 grams and seems to be packing on weight quite readily this summer. I deploy for 6 months soon and can't wait to see her size when I get back!

The female is like yours a voraciuos feeder most of the time. But last year she didnt eat once between mating in mid june and birth in late october, so she didnt grew much then and have spent this year bulking up again. This time around she has been feeding after mating as well. Hopefully for a couple of more months.

But my male has always been a picky feeder. Only accepted mice for a long time, took some work to get him onto rats, but now he eats fine most of the year, except now....his little brain is preoccupied with other matters, far more interesting than food.

The juveniles have also been a bit of a struggle to eat well, but now they have accepted mice and are quickly turning into feedingmachines.
