I know that most of the members that breed their snakes have live offspring, but I like to keep my snakes or a more natural schedule. I started cooling my snakes in mid December, and warmed them up in mid March. Now that it is almost July, I got what I was waiting for all this time, a dozen eggs. Both parents are snakes that were rescued by a friend in York Co. Virginia last fall.
Note from the photos that my Black Rat used her body to cover the eggs with the damp moss. When I placed the nesting box in the cage for her, it had a lid on it and had an even lining of moss. She didn’t knock the top off until she had finished, and then she remained with the eggs for another four to six hours.
Warning, the photos are large and will take some time to download if you are using dial-up.
