Check out my Rain Machine

jamesk Aug 01, 2003 06:24 PM

Come shedding time I can never keep the humidity up in my 8' X 3' X (2' on left half and 4 1/4' high on the right) burm cage. I just don't have the time to keep misting this size of cage with a spray bottle. So I built a "Rain Machine" as I like to call it. It goes off 8 times (every 3 hours) a day for 1 minute at a time. I might go for 2 minutes, I have to wait for the next shed to make my decision.

This first pic is where the water is filtered through drinking water filters and then goes through the timer.

From the timer through a garden hose through a wall into the snake room into the PVC tubing at the base of the cage.

Then it splits into 2 tubes with the misters poking down through the mesh roof to keep away from the lighting system.

It then stops on one tube but keeps going on the other down to the lower left half of the cage for one more mister.

Here is what the actual mister looks like.

Let me know if you are interested in what and where I got supplies to make the "Rain Machine"

Very neat project you've done. Is the mist very fine- wondering about the 2 ft. side? I've very few shedding problems in Florida. Sometimes if the shed is not perfect I will put a large cement mixing tub which is almost 4 ft. x 3 ft. and allow them to soak off the left over pieces. If and when I build the outdoor cages I plan on incorporating a very similar system. Our water is filtered at the source so we can by-pass that part. I would be interested in your methods if you could e-mail me or share the information for everyone. Thanks,
