Tips for switching from Live to F/T fuzz

toppy Jun 28, 2006 09:35 AM

A friend of mine recently bought a new Ball yearling. It appears that it was eating live fuzzys but the new owner does not have ready access to live and wants to swithch to F/T fuzzys. Any tips on the weening process. Can you feed a live then wave a F/T in front of the snake to provoke a feeding response once the snake is primmed with the live fuzzy. will this get the snake into the habit of accepting prey from the owner by providing motion to the F/T??????

Thoughts

thanks
Chris

if it is a yearling, it shouldnt even be on fuzzies anymore. a bp hatchling can often start on hoppers. he may want to move to larger prey. there are a few tricks though to switching over to f/t. i have found that the only way to get my bp to eat anything but gerbils is to offer her a gerbil first, then a mouse. she immediately responds to the mouse after the gerbil. some say that scenting the f/t with chicken broth can help. also, scenting the f/t with a live prey item can help. ive heard of a lot of people who have gotten a good response with the chicken broth trick though.
