277 last night

troy h Jun 28, 2006 11:22 AM

Marla & I ran over to 277 last night - hunted there from 10-2 (hunted 377 both on way out and way back).

Saw zero snakes. Wind was intermittent, but conditions seemed suitable. I figured it was a typical 277 night, where there would be one alterna found between the 3 cars there. I was right . . . a fellow from S TX caught a monster 40" light blairs female (thin) on the road around midnight.

The 2 days post rainfall rule holds true again . . . LOL

was she just thin, or did it look like a postpartum thin? Nice to see a female moving. Most of what has been caught this year seems to be males.

My opinion - the snake was just thin . . . my first impression when he pulled it out of the bag and said it was a female was "that has to be a male" because of the way it's body was shaped (long and lanky). But, a quick check under the tail showed it to indeed be a big female. Anyway, she didn't look like she'd recently laid eggs to me, rather she just looked like a rangy wc male.
