new poisonous chameleon snake.

Newly discovered in Jakarta, Indonesia. Has the ability to change colors to match surroundings and hot to the touch. Check out CNN's science page for pix and details.
Wonder how long it will last with all the deforestation going on in this area?

Not so sure it's entirely "new". Wasn't this in '03? or something?
I'll have to check it out..

At least it's been identified before being deforested out of existence. There are so many miracles and wonders lurking in the corners of our earth. The tragedy is that so often when they are discovered, their demise either begins or accelerates. Human beings are selfish clods.

>>Newly discovered in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It was discovered in Kalimantan (on the island of Borneo), not Jakarta. Jakarta is a crowded city of over 10 million people with no wild land left. Finding a new species of snake in Jakarta would be like finding one on Manhattan.

There was a discussion on one of the other forums about color change in snakes. There are several species that can do this, particularly changing color from day to night. The question is whether this species of Enhydris does it more quickly or more profoundly than other species. This remains to be seen.

Hey Chris, do you remember the Jim Hogg county female annulata I got from you at the expo in SA a year and a half ago? I still have her and damn is she squirmy (I'm holding her right now!)This drought sucks btw, nothing but green snakes in my yard (thanks to my sprinklers) and DOR Texas rats on the roads so far. Last season I found at least 10 snakes by this time...
