Snake is driving me crazy

jasonw Jun 28, 2006 02:42 PM

Hi everyone. My sons snake "Properly named snake by him" has this little issue. From the first feeding I fed her in a cardbord box as I do all our snakes. She ate with no problems. Now that she is no longer breeding she skiped her last meal by 7 days I think it was and this meal she skiped by 15 days. I had her in the box with the top closed all day long "literaly" yesterdya and she would not take a FT mouse "she has taken FT before" Now I put her back in her cage and for the heck of it put her FT mouse in there with her and she is showing huge interest pushing it around but has yet to take it. Any ideas? I dont understand why all of the suden she would decide to no longer eat in the box.

hey jason, is this the one that might be gravid? I know my females would just push their meals around when they wanted something smaller. Its like they are hungry, but know they can't fit that size of food. Try something smaller. I am not sure about the feeding out of the cage thing. Maybe the temps in the box are not desirable or the lighting. I am leaning more towards the possibility if she is gravid, needing smaller food.
How'd the soaking issue turn out. Did she shed?

I ended up giving her a little more time before offering assistance and she did shed on her own with no problems. I did remove the lay box and it was only after that she shed. She posably is gravid but not showing yet. Dose this behavure normaly start when they are this early in the pregnancy stage? I just got home from work and a drink with a friend it is 1253am and the mouse is still in the cage with her and she is sleeping now so I guess she did not want it. After being thawd for so long I will jsut toss it in the trash and try to thaw a smaller mouse in the morning and report back, Thanks for the reply.
