entertainment center/tank holder..anyone

railrider1920 Jun 28, 2006 05:31 PM

Hi folks,
I've been lurking around a little. Wanted to say hi and ask question or two. Got to wondering if anyone has anything like an entertainment center for their TV, stereo etc that will also hold some glass tanks (20gal long) or built in "tanks". Or seperate slide in tanks.

Right now we have a Brazilian rainbow boa. I'm hoping to be getting a couple of corns too. I'd like to be able to put them all in the same general area of the house where it would be a focal point, hence the idea of the entertainment center.

We will be getting a new TV hopefully soon. When we do, I'll have to build a new entertainment center or go buy one. Just looking for some ideas. Our house is on the small side. I'd only have about 6 feet of length to play with for the E. center.
Does anyone have any pictures of anything like this?
Any thoughts or concerns about a setup like this?
Thanks
Rob

I am in the process of creating the same thing

I have one of Sam's cages and they are awesome! I am dumping all of my visions and going CageCrafters. You might try sending him and email and see if he can help you. I know this is no longer his primary job but he may be able to build you a few cages.

...is housing our herps next to a loud TV in there best interest?

in designing our enclosures are we looking at what pleases us OR what best meets the needs of our herps.no finger pointing on my part, just trying to think "outside the bun".have fun!

No problem. You can point. LOL
I know what you mean. I have spoken to some people that house their Bearded dragons next to a tv and haven't had any problem with it.

Does anyone know if housing snakes near/next to a stero and or tv does snakes any harm? If I remember correctly, snakes can feel vibrations, but not hear sound. Is this correct? I'm not talking about bass thumping #10 on the volume, but rather just casual stereo use.

Regardless of the volume even the modest bass will create a disturbing vibration to some species if contained within or near the same room.

I myself listen to Heavy Metal, back in the day I used to house my snakes in my dorm room. Sometimes I would noticec some mild iritation if I had been listening little louder than I should. Now they have their own room in my basement no where near a stereo and they are calm never iritated like I had previously noticed.

I think as long as they are in cages that are not pressed against the wall or are on a different level in a house no matter what the volume the will be fine. I think a lot depends on species.

If necessary you might consider butting a rubber sheet under the speakers and keep them seperated from the actual cage with some airspace. This will make everything just fine, but again it depends a lot on the species.

God Luck

I'm agreeing with Jeremy on this one.. case in point, my roommate used to house his rat snake on top of entertainment center, and the snake was hell bent on destruction every time you tried to pick him up... I moved him into a corner tank across the room, not nearly as aggressive as he once was, still has the typical rat snake attitude sometimes, but no were near what he once was....

in the other reply.....

Can I take a look at your design? Any pictures or drawings you have would be cool if you can.
Thanks
