Pooping problem

stcloudbadger Jun 28, 2006 06:02 PM

For the past three-four (ever since she came out of brumation) months our beardie has had a problem going poop. She was only going once a week for a couple of months and then she went two weeks without going so we took her to the vet where they gave her an mineral oil enema, x-rays, fecal and did blood work. The enema worked but they couldn't come up with a reason for her lack of bowel movements. She hasn't gone since we brought her home (two weeks) and her eating has dropped off. Any ideas?? We give her a daily bath, her temps are fine, and we have limited her to one superworm or butterworm a day ( she would eat more if we let her) besides her greens. She is 15 months old, weighs 500 grams and is 21" long and seems to act normal in every way. Help!!

Assuming you have a uvb light and proper heat I would suggest adding baby food squash to his greens. Also some(not tons) fruit might help. I find if you give calcuim powder too often it can cause some constipation. Some plain yogurt won't hurt either (not much, a spoon full once a day for a few days)...this will help with digestion). It seems to me some dragons have more of an issue with this than others but I've had good luck with the squash. If they get going regularily back off on the squash.

Excerise! That's what helps mine go (and it's good for people). Should let them out to run around, if possible, let them explore some outside. Them getting up and moving does wonders for pooping. Mine poop everyday to every other day or so. One thing you could do is when you have 'em out(in home, i wouldn't do this outside) but toss i live worm a few inches to maybe a foot or to out in front of them. They usually run over to get the worm. Since i have hardwood floors here, i keep moving the worm some as they get closer, then they try and catch it. I think they have fun cause it gets them to think(alittle) and up on their toes.
