Tree Frogs; Best Single or with Buddies?

IBrakeForFrogs Jun 28, 2006 06:50 PM

I've got a male Barking Tree Frog and would like to know if he's best kept single or should I get him a buddy to keep him company? (And if so, what sex??) Currently his set-up is an 18"x18"x24" terrarium with all necessary climbing plants, vines, etc. Is this setup large enough for two barkers? If he would be happiest with a playmate, I could move to a larger habititat, but I love the setup I've got and I'm hoping it will work. Any feedback would be sooooo appreciated!

Tree frogs really can go either way. They aren't territorial, and non-aggressive.. but they don't really seem to bond with others either (except during the act of breeding). So.. it is really to you, and how much space you have.

Two males will sometimes wrestle for a "good" perch to call from, but rarely does one get hurt.. and it only happens during breeding season..
