EAST BAY NEWSPAPERS (Bristol, Rhode Island) 28 June 06 Barrington Police charge three boys in frog mutilation case
Barrington: During the past week Barrington Police arrested three juvenile suspects involved in the mutilation of several frogs discovered near Kent Street Pond on June 7.
A 15-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys — all Barrington residents — confessed to killing approximately 15 frogs after police received a tip from a neighbor who allegedly witnessed the incident.
According to Barrington Police Chief John LaCross, the official charge against the juveniles was malicious injury or killing of animals. A police report of the incident from two weeks ago said that the frogs, all in various states of mutilation, were strewn on top of a picnic table near Kent Street Pond. The officer on duty also reported that the animals appeared to have been there for some time.
Two of the boys charged will be referred to the juvenile hearing board, Chief LaCross said. The other boy will be sent to Rhode Island Family Court because of a prior offense on record.
