Bhubaneswar: He proposed and she refused. He then sent her a snake as a gift. A youth's act of sending a snake as a "gift" to a school teacher after being rejected as a lover has shocked many.
While the teacher was going to school in Saheednagar area here on Monday a child handed over a beautifully packed box to her having little idea what the bos contained, she opened it and much to her horror, saw a snake crawling out of it.
According to the teacher's family members, the boy stayed in a private hostel in the neighbourhood and had proposed to her a few days ago. But she had turned him down and asked him not to follow her or she would complain to police.
On Monday morning, the boy and his Mends came in a car and reportedly asked a child to hand over the gift box to the teacher. "I didn't know that the boy had sent the packet. I would not have received the box then," she said.
The teacher called up the Snake Helpline for assistance. Subhendu of Snake Helpline, who reached there said, "The miscreants' aim was only to terrify the teacher because the snake's tangs were already broken. But the incident could have had fatal consequences because the victim could have suffered a cardiac failure".
