I have lost 3 of the 5 original of Ana's eggs. The 4 she laid last week were all but flat. I really do not think there was a chance. But the two that I have from her 2nd clutch look good. One is firm to the touch the other a bit soft but not terrible.

So my questions - are there outward signs on the eggs that its hatching is imminent? Is there a color change or other sign? According to Gary Ferguson they should be hatching within a week to a few weeks. I want to be prepared! If there are only two, can I keep them in a 2.5 gall tank for awhile? I REALLY hope I witness at least one hatching.

thanks,
lele

Hi lele, sorry ya lost some but that happens. The eggs when near hatch time may sweat, or may just begin to dent a bit, denting more as time goes on, until ya see a snout peek out (providing all goes well). Heres a collared egg that started to hatch last weekend, he's out and fine now but this is what it will look like.

Some start to get wet-ish, maybe darker like this one, begins to get thinner more transparent as it callapses, until you may even see through it in some places.

Just always different, LOL some hatch quick some take a long time....

This lil guys snout is peeking out

to make you feel better...no way I could have known

hope that didn't sound snotty! :-O I was just wondering if you were going to shed some miraculous light! lol! These are my first ever (fertile, as in - they mated) eggs so watching carefully. But I do have to say that the condition of the 3 I tossed and the two remaining are very different.

thanks, for caring and trying to make me feel better

point where they cannot be recovered. In my experience with desert reptile eggs, you will notice a slight lack of turgidness in some eggs. You can add tiny bits of water around the egg, to increase humidity. If they do not become tight by taking in moisture, their probably isn't anything you can do...to much water will kill them.

In my humble opinion, they eggs you tossed were probably not good. I've also seen some eggs in a clutch that were fertile, and some that were not...weird.

thanks john, for your continued support! I really think the others were NG. When they went they went fast (like in 2 days) and had been fine up until then. Two were stuck together that I couldn't separate and it looked like one was going a while before. The other two are still looking good and I see a bit of "shadow." I want to take a closer look but I am not ready for them yet (have 100's of wild silk moth larvae (cages, sleeved trees, etc.) to deal with!)) so I figure if I don't look too close they will give me a few more days! Egg denial! Not to worry, I look at them at least 2x/day. They are on top of my tarantula tank (UTH serving two purposes) which are right next to my beardie tank - and all are in the bedroom so I' can;t REALLY be in denial - lol!!

I am looking forward to them just not for about a week BUT...I just got some new Turkistan roaches. They are like lobster roaches but don;t climb - the folks (Stan and Ana) love them!! They come in all sizes, but are VERY fast. Ana sits in her sandbox and waits for me to drop them in

My lizards always lay at the most in opportune times...I am either away on business, or getting ready for a trip etc. Sounds like you are well prepared. I hope to see your baby lizards soon. Watching eggs hatch is a pretty awesome experience. Good luck with your lizards!
