Boaphile Cages

Python_Goddess Jun 28, 2006 11:34 PM

Hello guys I've got a question I've been pondering for a while. I have 3 ball pythons and looking for cages that I won't have to worry about nor build myself since I am no craftsman. I was looking into Boaphile cages and I was wondering if anyone has them or has heard of them, good or bad. I kind of liked them because they were expandable but I am unsure of what type of heating system to put in there. In one of my earlier cages one of my Pythons burnt herself and ever since I am leerie of any kind of heating. Please help me.

I'm assuming since I didn't catch it that she was crawling up the sides and fell over on it since it was mounted on the side of the cage. She was my first and I assumed when they felt it was hot they would stay away from it. Now granted that the cages I would get they would be mounted from the top.,..I just don't want to risk it.

Yes they are nice cages. There are many cage makers now. Just look in the kingsnake.com classifieds to see some.

I wouldn't bother with expandable caging for ball pythons. It isn't like the snakes are getting 10 feet. The 2x2x1 cage would be good for a single BP adult.

Boaphile uses the low watt density Flexwatt for the undercage heating option. Get that option and buy a dimmer or proportional controller and you won't be burning anything.

I have seen them and they are nicely built but they seemed kind of dark to me no way to light them.
If you want to have the option of heat/light from above look into animalplastics (they have ads in classifieds) or look at pmherps site. Both have cages with screen over area in the top .
Its good to have the option .

I agree .. Boaphile has some nice stuff at decent prices .. especially for a Ball Python where you're not gonna need a cage bigger than 4ft IMO.

Monster-cages also has some nice lookin enclosures. Very nice website / easy to navigate.

One thing you might want to check out with each builder is how long will it take to get your Ball Python enclosure ... some builders have a backlog.

For heating ... I've read that RHP's ( radient heat panels ) are nice also. They can be mounted on the ceiling of the enclosure or the wall. But with ANY heat system you'll want to use some kind of temp controller and that can be as simple as one of the plug in timers you can use for lamps, depending on what kind of climate you live in. I live in MN so during the winter I use a thermostat for my animals enclosures.

Good luck
