boa cages

mcwoods Jun 29, 2006 04:02 PM

hey guys,

I am currently a college student at Brown University in Providence, RI, and I have decided that I am going to buy a Brazilian Rainbow Boa when the fall comes around and I go back up to school. I have talked to a couple breeders, and I think I have lined up some pretty good contacts to get a snake. the other more expensive thing that I need to buy is a cage for it. I understand that Rainbows require somewhat more humidity than some other kinds of boas and pythons, so a aquarium with screen top is out. I was considering one of those cool looking boxes with a sliding glass door on the side possibly. If anyone has good advice on where to buy a cage from, or if they have a less expensive solution that works (I am a college student), I would love to hear advice. This will be my first pet snake, so I can use all the advice from experience that I can get.

Thanks guys,
Mike

I've got some of the boaphile cages and although I am not housing my BRB's in them at this time (using them for BCI's) I feel they would work well. One main thing to look for is minimal ventilation. Bigger vents mean more escaped humidity.

Hey Mike,
My daughter also attends Brown University and here's my advice.
Wait until you graduate before setting up your snake. If your work load is anything close to hers', you don't have the time to put into your animal. Congrats on getting an education at one of the finest schools in the country!

Look on the classifieds, there are lots of cages.

I went to Princeton and was drunk maybe € of my college career and still managed to graduate with high honors. I would have had plenty of time to care for a boa, just not enough clarity to do it well...

paraboloid Jun 29, 2006 06:40 PM

that should read 80 percent...don't know why that euro symbol was inserted instead...

albinorosy Jun 29, 2006 08:41 PM

Well Mike there's your answer... transfer to princeton and have plenty of time to stay drunk while caring for your boa.
Good luck
