Looks like a Contia tenuis? Is it a long-tailed or a short-tailed? Did you breed her or was she already gravid? I've had my long-tailed for over a year now. I'm going to try to pair him/her up eventually. If they are cb, I'd be interested in hearing any details associated with the breeding.

That's a short-tailed gifted to me and was gravid when I got her.

How do you have her set-up? Is she eating for you? How big is she? My long-tailed has always eaten readily for me (as long as it's slugs), but I've seen others post about difficulties getting theirs eating. Since I've only had experience with mine,I don't know which scenario is more typical.

Good luck with the eggs!

I just have her in a small critter container with mulch and some moist orchid moss and toss in small slugs. I hope she starts eating as she fasted while gravid.

I think that I'd be scared to have mine in a critter keeper. Mine is a little over a foot long now and a bit bigger around than a pencil. I have him in one of those little 1 gallon type aquariums with the sliding lid. I have it clamped shut because it still wiggles with the pin. Since his head is about 1.5 times the diameter of the pin hole, I thought I could safely leave the pin out. The next morning he'd managed to work two inches of his body through the pin hole! I've heard of escapes from critter keepers before with these guys and now that she's not gravid... You may want to consider putting a layer of screen under the lid. I would have thought it physically impossible for my guy to get through that hole!

I have my guy on about 2 inches of bed-a-beast. There is a bark slab that takes up ~2/3rds of the floor and a clay saucer of water. I mist the area under the bark occaisionally so that it stays damp. When I feed I put a piece of romain or some type of lettuce under the bark and dump in a bunch of small slugs which gradually disappear. I've only witnessed feeding twice. The smaller slugs that are about half the diameter of the snake when fully extended and no wider than the snake when bunched up are the first to disappear.

I had a discussion with Richard Hoyer a while a go on the forums about these guys & captive maintenance, and I also copied a lot of old posts on their taxonomic status and have it all in a word file. The above has worked for me, but Richard did things a bit differently. If you're interested, I can email it to you (I think I still have your address).

Good luck and be sure to post pics of the babies!

Yea, I have a piece of screen to make sure there are no escapes. And please email that information from Richard as he is quite informed on many aspects of reptile maintenance. Thanks.

I sent it off, let me know when you get it if the attachments came through okay. Hotmail wasn't letting me attach so I sent it through my gmail. I think some of the posts were copied from the taxonomy forum and some from the rosy forum (I replied to a post that had some Contia pics in with his rubber boa pics).
