Sick Hermans not going to bathroom, help

terrygar Jun 29, 2006 07:58 PM

3 yr cb hermans male has really slowed down, sleeps all day, no snap like before, mainly outdoor habitat in north cal.
Never sick before, eating dark greens organic and some fruit watermelon. I have not see poop for days. I soak him all time and see the white stuff sometime. How do you help them to go?? What foods would make them go??

Not sure what the problem is, but avoid the watermelon (and most fruits) and feed leafy greens, high in fiber. Watermelon reduces gut motility (in my experience). Continue soaking. A slow GI tract shouldnt cause lethargy, so if he's slowed way down, you might want to think about a vet.

good luck.

The lack of poop alone isn't much of a concern if only a few days... constipation at worst. The fact that you're seeing other symptoms, like lethargy and (how's the appetite), I would have an xray and vet exam. A foreign body or obstruction is much safer to treat if found before the animal is really sick.

Good luck

He finally went poop today and a big one, now hes running all around!!! Yeah.
One other interesting thing this spring/summer he really buries himself real deep in the soft soil I leave for him, is it ok to leave him buried like this for as long as he wants?
