Thanks, Andy!
Actually, I'm not having any problems at all administering the meds. I ordered a syringe of Panacur paste and diluted it with water. It was easy and went perfectly. This looks exactly like what I get at the vet, but now I can do it on my own and for a lot cheaper.
The metronidazole from the vet is usually a chunk of the 250 mg tablets that they give to dogs. This is far too inaccurate for my tastes so I was excited to see that they made powder filled capsules. I'm one step closer, but still a little disappointed with the way the med. separates from the water. This should be MORE accurate, but, as is very typical of me, I think I can do better still. I worked with a vet in Dallas that said he had some liquid metronidazole exactly for the purpose of the small, but accurate doses required for small reptiles.
I'm totally happy with what I found for the panacur, but feel I can do better for the metronidazole.
I've been a veterinary technician for a while and was trained by an amazing EXOTICS (not just a dog and cat) vet for a lot longer. Since I moved away, I've been pretty frustrated and disappointed with what I've found. Luckily though, I'm pretty happy with my skills for the most part. I'm trying to make myself more self-sufficient in as many ways as I can. Eventually, I'm going to get a microscope and run my own fecals.
...but I digress...so anyway, dosing with a guesstimated amount of metronidazole can work and the new trick with the mostly dissolved powder in water will be better. I just was wondering if there was a better solvent or if anyone knew where to find that elusive liquid metronidazloe.
Thanks again for all your helps, guys!
