Los Angeles herping

I'm on a cross country road trip with my wife. I got one day to herp in LA while she shops. I'm in Van Nuys. Where should I go to see some snakes? I saw a southern pacific rattlensake in the santa monica mountains, but I really want to see some rosy boas. I only have the day to herp. I already struck out in west texas and arizona. This is my last chance to see some cool stuff. Please point me in the right direction. any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I think right now it's so hot that your best bet to see anything would be either road cruising out in the desert edges of L.A. county (Lancaster/Palmdale area), or getting up in the local mtns early in the am. The Santa Susana Mtns (above Chatsworth off 118) or the Santa Monica Mtns in Malibu are good spots.
