Jackson surviving outside?

chameleonowner Jul 01, 2006 06:05 AM

I am planning on getting a trio of jackson's in a few weeks and was wondering I they could survive in the florida sun. My other question is do you think if I bought a 260 gallon cage, that 2 females could live togethor. I am trying to save space and also haveing such a big cage is kinda neat. My alternitive question would be to ask if a male panther and a female panther can live in that cage, although i would rather do the female jacksons. thanks for your time.

Jax won't like the heat, but the humidity would probably be OK. They would need lots of hose misting and decent shade during the hot part of the days. The problem may be not enough cool down at night...at least 15 degrees.

A 260 gal cage will not be large enough to house more than one cham of most species. If you had a greenhouse sized cage fine, but 260 just won't work I don't think. The chams need serious visual isolation, multiple basking spots, humid hides, places to drink and hunt to avoid stressing each other. One will usually become dominant and pester the other. You could build a dividable cage in almost the same space (I really like giving each jax a 4' tall 3' on a side space so there is room for large bushy plants and they can thermoregulate easily) and plan to but a visual barrier down the middle.
