cheapcolon23 Jul 01, 2006 02:43 PM

I got a new albino burm from my local reptile store about 2 months ago. When i first got it it would hiss and bite but we soon tamed it down for it not to bite. now it has been two months and it still hisses....at first i thought it would go away but it still does it....i think maybe its gonna shed soon so maybe it is cranky? any suggestions would be helpful thank you

mine does it too, when i first got him on dec. he would strike when ever i open the cage to handle him, since using a snake hook is useful tool to get the snake out but first rub it on the snake body to let him or her know its you and take him out gentle, let him sit on your lap or hand and dont make any sudden movement, dont use the snake hook the day you are feeding him also dont use the hook while you are feeding him. other trick is to put the snake in a snake bag or a small pillow bag and while the snake are in the bag you hold it on your lap or in your hands rub the snake while he is still in the bag. sometimes it take a while for the snake to settle down it took my burm to settle down less than 1 month and he is great now. dont forget to leave your snake alone for 2 or 3 days after eating the meal. hope this help.

i usually pick it up with my hands and it is fine without striking or anything. Today i went to handle it and it looks like its eyes are white and its whiteness and orange color are lighter so i think its gonna shed pretty soon...but i also fed it like a day ago so im kinda confused...well im gonna keep working on it and see how it goes

Your python is going to shed soon based on your description. Snakes may become more irritable when they are "in blue" and while many will not feed during this period, some will. No worries about that.
