No water bowl??

anafranil Jul 02, 2006 08:42 AM

when my iguana was younger and kept in smaller enclosures he used to drink water from the bowl very very occasionally. Now that he is an adult I keep him in a room sized enclosure there have been litteraly years since I saw him drink.Perhaps the large surface of the enclosure kept him out of site of the bowl.Anyway, that made me reomove the bowl and since then he has been hydrating only by his greens,fruits,etc..
I would really like to have your comments please.
Thanks

Iguanas do in fact get most of their water from vegetation and fruits. However, they do also get it from rain droplets up in the trees, and I'm sure they may drink from streams and rivers.

Therefore, a water dish should always be present. Or, place ice-cubes around so that they trickle water, and can stimulate drinking. For large enclosures, 2 water dishes would work.

As long as it's healthy and shedding properly, it's fine.
