Reptile show picture etiquette

pythonis Jul 02, 2006 01:16 PM

just out of curiosity, if you are a particapant at a reptile show and someone takes a pic of their friend holding one of your snakes is it okay for the owner of said reptile to expect to be given a copy of the picture(s) taken? i was wondering because this just happened to me and several people had their pictures taken holding various of my snakes but nobody mentioned anything about sending me copies of the pics and i wasnt sure if it was rude or not to ask.

I always charge people if they want my pic but of course I am a huge celebrity in my own eyes....Why didn't you just ask them if they could send you a copy?

if you reread the question, youll see that i asked if it wouldve been rude or not to ask which is why i didnt.

I am not sure what the big deal is? There is nothing wrong with asking someone to send you a picture......You aren't asking for their first born or anything.....so my answer would be no....ask away.

By the way......why would you want copies of the pictures anyway? Was Pam Anderson holding them? Don't you have pics of your snakes already at home???

I have taken many pics of peoples reptiles at many shows, I first ask for permision, and have actually been denied several times, for unkown reason, But I have never been asked for copies of the pics. I personally wouldn't want pics of some random person holding my snakes, what would you want that for..? ...lol

Most of the time vendors are cool enough to let me take pics of my favorites, most people drive and make vacations out of thier trips to shows, so to have pics of what you did on your vacation is natural. I don't think its really RUDE to ask for a copy, but don't expect one...I think if I was asked for a copy of the pic, I would just keep moving and not take any pics...Just my opinion. I have also been asked to not post pics (in a very polite manner I might add....I was explained that many people who take pics of certain peoples animals and then post them on forums like this, many times the pics don't come out and don't due justice to the animal, I respected that vendors request and even thought I took many good shots of his animals I did not post any of them.

Some people have just plain out said NO PICS...and I say OK and keep walking...Shows should be fun, and not confronational, At least in my opinion. I think its all in how you phrase the request, poss. ask for a copy rather than demand one, Chances are you will never see a copy...either way, but To answer your question I don't think its rude if you ask in a polite way rather than demanding a copy..and I personally would never ask for a copy cause you probably won't see one, and why would I really want one anyway..

SOrry for the long post..Too early need more coffee..LOL

well one reason i would like a copy of the pics is just in case i come across an ad for a snake for sale and it is my snake. then i wouldnt be sitting here trying to figure out if it was mine or not. was pam anderson holding my snakes? no, i hear she likes the big ones (hehe). besides, after taking multiple pics of me holding my snakes, it is just a nice change of pace to have pics of other people with them. or at least it is to me.

I don't think you asking for a copy is any more or less rude then them asking for a picture with one of your animals..

Asking before you snap is a good idea and if the owner asks for a copy then why not send him one? But here's the deal.. if they're displaying an animal at a public show then it's available for picture taking. They don't have to take it out for your photo session but if a vendor chases off people wanting a snapshot of animals they're selling I wonder just what they have to hide?
.
That's my .02 worth on that subject.

I'm not a breeder (working on it though)or a vendor.

IMO
In a open to public environment, it would almost be expected that people would want to take pics. If someone were to wants pics of your animals, I would think they owe you copy, out of courtesy of using your animal for the pics. Of course I would expect mutual respect/politeness from both paties.

Of course there are concerns from the reptile owners. They want to make sure pic of their animals are not misused. I wouldn't want to see someone else's albino ad featuring a pic of MY snake, unless I sold them my snake or its offspring.

Are the animals in being photographed in display containers? If so, I would classify it as tourist type pics (low risk).

If the animal is being displayed outside of an enclosure, it says "souvenier pics" to Joe public.

I feel the real concern is someone who wants a animal taken out a display case and is really trying to take close up/quality pics, while trying to omit any link to the vendor.
