05 breeder females?

ronin1360 Jul 02, 2006 05:39 PM

if you have an 05 female that reaches a good breeding weight (at least 1500g) before this upcoming breeding season, what problems can arise from puting her with a male? in other words, why would you want to wait until 07-08 if she has the weight to go this year? is it true that she would have a smaller clutch size if she produces anything at all?

just curious. thanks

She may not be ready and not let the male near her. If she does breed she could have a small clutch and it could ruin her in terms of future breedings. Have 2 year old females bred successfully? Yes but why risk it.

i was told that a study was done once which a formula arised to determine clutch size. It was associated with the snakes length. so you can have a fat snake at 2 yrs but not have the length. i learned this in school(am a vet tech)

thanks for the info... another question: what are the "dangers" of letting an 05 girl go this year assuming she is over 1500g? what particular health problems could arise? in your experience, have you seen smaller clutch sizes as the result of previous breedings?

thanks
