My collared has a funny brown collared patch near his mouth and I am concerned that something may be wrong with him. It doesn't look as though it is part of his markings. Does anyone know what it might be?

Is it crusty or just a brownish looking stained area? You could use a Q-tip with mineral oil and go over it and see if it comes off if it's a stained area.
And if it is crusty I would also put the mineral oil on , it will soften if it's crusty, then you can remove it, and apply some neosporin/ triple anitibiotic ointment to the area.
And as Vonnie suggested you can call your vet and ask him to look at it , sometimes it's hard fo rus to know fo r sure over the net what things are. Let us know how ya make out.
