male not receptive?

chameleonowner Jul 03, 2006 08:34 AM

this is the second time in two months that i am trying to breed my panthers and i am having no luck. the problem isnt the female, its the male. He gets excited when she is put in the cage but then becomes scaried and hides from her. why is he not going after her. she seems perfectly receptive but he isnt doing anything. I need some help.

While I'm not familiar with breeding panthers, I can offer some suggestions that apply to breeding in general. Have you tried putting the male into the females cage? Perhaps leaving them overnight? Another trick that some have had luck with is showing another male (or a mirror) to the male you're trying to breed. This presents the notion of competition and may trigger a response.

Hopefully some of the panther breeders will have some suggestions as well. Good luck.

You didn't say how old the chameleons are...but I assume they are sexually mature?

You said..."the problem isnt the female"..."she seems perfectly receptive"....she's not hissing, gaping and the background color isn't dark?

She is 100% fine besides trying to out run the male. When first puting the female in the male will puff up and head bob. Thats about as far as he gets he slowly walks over and by that time she is gone, then when she walks towards him he hides under whatever branch he is on. I have never seen such a shy chameleon. he still is eating and drinking but they have been togethor for about a full day now and their has been nothing at all. I am goin to go try that mirror trick. any more help will be appriceated. thanks.
