How pumped am I?!!!!!!

Jeremy Pierce Jul 03, 2006 09:07 AM

These guys started hatching yesterday and out of 13 babies that I can see, this is the only white side. But if its body looks as good as its head, I'll be doing cartwheels! This things head rules!!!! I love this! Take care all!

Thanks Frank,
It is taking its sweet time coming out! Its killing me. My ratio was terrible for a het to het breeding. Out a clutch of 20 it looks like this is the only whiteside. I have one more clutch of the het to het to hatch. That one has 10 eggs. Maybe I'll get 9 ws and 1 possible het! Never hurts to stay positive right? Take care and have a great 4th!

You have a happy 4th as well. I have done several het to het breeding's of various snakes and rarely got a 50/50 mix. That is merely statistical. I once bred some het for albino bubblegum rats and got 2 albinos out of 14 eggs, the snake then double clutched on its own (no re-mating) and she laid 4 fertile eggs and all 4 were albinos, so you never know what your gunna get. Good luck with second clutch and at least it's 100 % that the snakes are het for white sided. Post pics of the WS and keep us up to date on other clutch and Remember there is always next year, once again CONGRATS

Thanks again! Actually I am not bummed out at all. The rest of the clutch looks very nice and I have one odd ball that I will take pics of after her first shed. All of the normal colored babies will be 66% possible hets since neither parent was homozygous for whiteside. I don't mind. I've been working on this project for 5 years now and every new improvement is worth it! I am pumped for this season! Northern Pines should start hatching within the week and the exitement will start all over again! Take care!

Is that WS from your WS x redbull crosses? Nice snake, my WS bulls are more of the salt and pepper variety. I love the ones like that.

Jeremy Pierce Jul 05, 2006 04:48 AM

Yes it is. His grandfather on his dads side was a Trumbower line w.s. from Don at South Mountain. I used the het trumbower male on two of the het females this year. The mother that produced the whiteside in the pic had Bell line whiteside heritage which is more of the salt and pepper look. I wish I would have produced more than one just for the fact that it would have been interesting to see if one form was dominant over the other. I am with you in that I definately like the Trumbower line more just for the super clean look. I have one more clutch due to hatch from the ws X red project. The one w.s. that I produced last year (I seem to have horible luck with ratio's!) is pretty nice looking. Her saddles are kind of lavendar and she has a green head. Her body ground color (dorsally) is creamy. I can't get picks to pic up any of these features but as you can see, she is more of the salt and pepper look. She has all Bell line blood in her. Well time to go. Northerns are hatching this morning!!!!! I do not want to go to work! Take care all!
