Feeding Blues

Hey guys. Long time no post...

My chameleon's eyes are slightly better, one is open all the time, but the other is still closed. The thing is... she's BARELY eating... if any thing at all. I'm starting to see her ribs and she looks incredibly thin . She's almost always got crickets available unless the damn things jump out (>

Meant to ask if there was any way to "entice" her to eat...

I know some tricks with snakes but... none at all with chammies

Please help...

there is a product called Repta-Aid by Flukers and can be found at most chain pet stores (and online) for about $10

it is mainly used for severely dehydrated animals. It comes in a powder form and you NEED to follow the directions on how much to give based on weight and severity of condition. Luna loved it, once she gets a taste of it she should like it - just don't over do it.

Without searching out your posts (sorry, no time) I think I recall you did take her to a vet, who was not all that helpful? Did you have a fecal done in case of parasites? It sounds like you need to find a good vet. If she is dehydrated she may need subcutaneous (under the skin. aka Sub-Q) fluids injected. Can you post a pic? This really does not sound good since it has been going on for quite sometime. The eye thing is surely a sign of something.

The Vet guy did a fecal, said she had some minor protazoa, and injected things anally to take care of that, he also gave her several injections which im assuming is those "fluids under the skin" thing you mentioned. I live in Houston, any of you guys know a good place?

I'll try that Fluker's stuff while i'm out today, i just have no idea what to do anymore >

You should always do a follow-up fecal to make sure she is clean. Darwin, my beardie, had pinworms and I went to a different vet gave him injections of Ivermectin. I went back for follow-up and he still had them - good thing I checked! I went to my regular herp vet, we treated him with Panacur and upon follow-up fecal, he is clean. So I STRONGLY suggest doing a follow-up - your vet should have requested this.

I think we asked you before EXACTLY what the vet did. Look on your payment receipt/invoice, this should list everything done. If you cannot find it, then call your vet for another copy AND ask what it was, right it down and tell us. It is just too hard to make other suggestion. Obviously, something is still very wrong

As for a vet in your area go to the Cham Resource page (linked below) and go to the vet listings. Find an ARAV vet in your area - I am sure that there is someone in Houston area.
