Vet check-up today..good and bad news

Linda G Jul 03, 2006 03:48 PM

Hi All,

The vet came today to do Beanie and Digits yearly physical.

The great news is that she thinks Digit is a picture of health.
No more problems with MBD which he had at adoption. He just
turned 3 and is 42" STL and weighs in at 2.4 pounds.

The bad news is Beanie's blood work showed that her calcium/
phosphorus levels are starting to go off. She was my first
ig that I adopted almost 4 years ago that was/is in terrible
shape due to poor care by multiple owners. She has a deformed jaw and multiple old fractures of the her legs. She is about 6 years old and is only 38" STL and weighs 2 lbs. She also had
to be spayed due to egg binding and I syringe fed her for a year
until she finally starting eating on her own. I have been
successful until now by using crushed tums but the vet thinks
she is starting to fail. I was able to locate calcium gluconate and she is getting .7cc of this daily. She is not in kidney
failure as yet but the vet suspects it is in the near future.
I told her that as soon as this happens I will euthanize. She
has been through too much already but has seemed happy in my
care. I don't want her to suffer not one minute if this happens.

Just wanted to share. I have my fingers crossed for her. Her is
a picture of her the day of adoption.
Linda

I hope everything works out for you. This is sad news but I respect your decision to put the ig down. It's really what's best.

How do your igs interact?

Thank you.

My igs have separate enclosures and never get together.
They do seem to enjoy watching each other though.
