where do most venomous keepers live?

atherisquamigera Jul 03, 2006 04:47 PM

I am looking for a state that allows venomous pets (as long as the permit doesn't require for me to be a certified zoo) I currently live in colorado and it doesn't allow venomous pets. Which states do? I will be moving soon and hope to then start with minor hots and work my way up to vipers and elapids. =) I found this site: http://www.pullianspetcenter.com/ but it has no info about what is required to get a permit. I want a state that will allow me to keep a hot even without being a zoo or having a degree.

Venomous animals should never be considered as "pets". If you want a pet a Cat or Dog will do.

Not many states left... PA, FL, LA, SC, TX, WA, and AR are ones that come to mind off the bat.

Venomous are also allowed in Ohio (for now).

when i say pet i mean a hot kept by a hobbyist not a zoo. what do you call yours? Ive always called my snakes my babies, but I dont like to tell people that cuz its a wee bit obsessive. but of course you'll probably not like that name either so let me explain now. I call them my babies because they are beautiful and expensive and delicate, and i love every one of them. not because i want to pick them up and cradle them and sing to them. (lol just imagine a bush viper in a bib) Ive noticed that so many newbies who post with a question get the usual "get a dog" or "get a cornsnake" treatment I understand that you are trying to protect your hobby from uninformed legistative decisions, and more importantly you are all trying to save the lives of newbies. But please respect that most of us are trying to learn, thats why we are here. thats why we ask questions, we want to protect these things too. (these things meaning our lives and the hobby itself)

I call them collectively "My Venomous collection" or my Zoo. I refer to them individually as "my specimen".

Not sure about now, but the last time I checked Iowa left controls up to the locality(I looked into it a few years ago and decided not to get into venomous yet-still waiting). Local laws ranged to basically whatever you want as long as not protected species top NO snakes-one town lists all constricting snakes as dangerous animals. The ordinance was passed because of an idiot who let a kingsnake roam his apartment and it got next door. Snake was SHOT, law was passed.
