Head bobbing - both doing it

kellybee Jul 04, 2006 03:12 AM

Hi,

I have a pair of Collared lizards, From research I believe they are Eastern Collareds. They are both around 10 inches long, and both are fairly dull in colour, although the bigger one has more pale blue to his tail as well as a pale green body and grey head. The smaller lizard is just very pale green with a grey head. They seem to head bob and lick each other a lot, but without any aggression....I know the pet shop will often get it wrong but they were sold as a pair. Am I likely to have two males? I've looked on Suncharmers site (wow, that's a great place to learn, she's fab), but I think they might still be too young to tell from their underside, I can't figure out which pic they look more like. I'll try to post pics but thought the head bobbing might be a clue, its weird they both do it, although mum has a pair of beardies and the female does head bob occasionally too. I just dont want them to do each other any damage, does anyone have any experience with this as I'm still learning? Many thanks, Kelly, UK

Hi, Kelly

Pictures would help if you can post 'em. I'll help if I can. My females do display on occasion if there is a new cagemate around, so I don't think the head bobbing is an accurate way to sex them. Let's see what they look like.

it's very rarely too early to sex a collared. i sexed my babies when they were like 3 days old. if the black dots are on either side of the vent then it is a girl. if not then it is more than likely a boy or two boys.
