halogen spot lights

Has anyone ever used halogen spot lights for basking light? I am looking for some spacesaving alternatives.

Yes, these are widely used here in Europe. They do provide lots of heat, but their light output is only like 40% of that of a metal halide of same wattage.

I use them all of the time. They work great. Have a high heat output for the wattage, are convienently sized, and can be adjusted with dimmer switches. I highly recommend them.
