Clutch Size???

MikeRusso Jul 04, 2006 10:30 AM

I know it's hunting season and this is sort of off topic but...

On 6/3/06 one of my very average sized Loma Alta females (pictured below passing egg #8) gave me a clutch of 17 nice sized eggs that all on day 31 look good so far.

Before this my biggest clutch was 14 good eggs and i thought that was high average.

So, my question is: Has anyone heard of a clutch of 17 or more from an Alterna??

Hi Mike,
I had my largest ever clutch of 14 Juno road eggs laid last month, of which 13 look fertile, thats my new record. I think your 17 is certainly in the top few of alterna mega clutch sizes, I personally knew of one other friend, Steve Fluty of KS City, who no longer keeps alterna, but one year he had a Langtry blairs lay 18 eggs, not sure, but I think most were fertile from that clutch. I remember Steve telling me all about that, as he had acquired those langtry snakes from me as neonates & that langtry strain was my very first alternas I ever acquired in 1981 from Stuart Tennyson, who was one of the few people at that time that was very successfull in producing alterna back when many of us didnt know the cycling requirements alterna needed. Anyway, congrats on that clutch, that is great.....John

Hi John,

Thanks for the info on the eggs... The hatchlings that I got from you are doing well.

Hope all is well with you..
