If you purchase a fishing license, you are allowed to catch two. Make sure that you go to an area where collecting is permitted and take care not to destroy habitat (don't break apart rocks). I'd also recommend trying to get a hatchling. I caught one of mine, thinking she was a yearling. When I posted her picture, I found out she was probably 3+. It took me about 6 months to get her feeding and maintaining weight; I had to buy her a $150 cb buddy, and move her into a 100 gallon tank (with all four sides covered) before she finally turned around. It's been almost two years now, and I've finally been able to remove most of the paper from the front of the tank, but I still think she still hates me. I don't know if this is typical, but I'd recommend starting with a smaller guy.

Bellow is a pic of Gracie shortly after capture. If I had it to do over, I would have waited until I could find a younger lizard or just gone cb (there were no cb's available when I caught Gracie).

Good luck,
Alice

A lot of BLM land permits collecting as does a lot of the forest service land. I'm not too familiar with Palm Springs. I'd get a map, look for BLM land encompassing suitable habitat and head there. Make sure that you have your fishing license. Stay out of State Parks, National Monuments, and National Parks etc. Look for areas that permit activities like hunting and fishing.
