Computer fans for ventilation?

micky-kennie Jul 04, 2006 10:32 PM

Hi! I'm constructing a large tropical vivarium for dart frogs out of wood. Its 42" long, 30" tall and 16" deep. I want to install small fans to allow air circulation and ventilation. Where could I find such fans, how much do they cost, and what would be the best way to go about installing them (both to protect the dart frogs from the fan, and so that it will look asthetically pleasing because the vivarium and its stand are made of furniture quality wood and are made to furniture quality standards. Thanks for your help!

Mike

You can get ventelation fans at any store that sells computer parts, or, better yet, if you come across an old junk desktop at a garage sale or something. You'll need the fans, of course, possibly some extensions for the fans' power cords, and a computer power supply, wattage does not matter. As far as positioning, I think 2 would be enough - just have one on the left side, sucking air in, and one on the right side, blowing air out - or vice versa. Probly just cut holes in the top and silicone them in. THen place the power supply behind it, plug it in, and viola.

hi mike. i have been thinking of buying some dart frogs in the near future so i have been doing A LOT of research on them and every source that i came across that mentioned ventilation stated that none was needed. The frogs trive in set-ups that have no ventilation and set-ups that have too much ventilation can actually become harmfull. But if you really wanted to do it i dont see why not as long as you can still keep the humidty very high.
