TINY Baby BCI

gentlegiant Jul 05, 2006 12:58 AM

Hi all, first the gloating-- I have a 10'6" Bci I bred to a 5-foot male Bci. I got 44 babies!! Yeah thats right 44. First breeding for the female, and the male was bred to a 7' female before going in to the 10'6" females' cage. 44 Babies! Some great patterns, some so-so.

One of the babies is TINY--- it's head is smaller than a penny and I doubt it's more than 9 inches long. The rest of them are about 16-20 inches, and have good yolk bellys. The runt is very thin, with less than half the diamater of the others, and has NO yolk belly. they were born July 3 2006.

I am worried for #44- the runt. Anyone know what I can do to get him going? He does not move around like the others- they are like little rockets, he mostly just sits. I'm going to try either a newborn pink or a pink head, but he is so small......

Anyone get one of these before? How do they do? Do they tend to catch up to their littermates, or will it simply be small/possibly developmentaly challenged forever?

Final count was the 44 babies, 8 slugs.

p.s. anyone wanna buy a boa?

lol, my hands are full of boas right now so no more !

I would seperate this neonate, and focus on keeping hydrated. The digestive system isn't quite ready for a meal until after that first shed. A trip to the vet for some ICo fluids might be a good idea if it's looking like it's heading south. If food is decided upon, make it super small, and not very dense. Half a pinkie, or a mouse tail might work, but you'll have to weight the pros and cons of the stress and the nutrition.

I've never had such a clear runt like this, good luck

Ian
